Research between Europe and China

co-reachThis article is written for researchers who are interested in collaborative research between European and Chinese institutions. It introduces the CO-REACH -project, a network of European S&T policy and funding organisations involved in “promoting research co-operation with China in the natural sciences, medical and life science, engineering sciences, social sciences, and humanities.”  The project was started in May 2005. It’s website contains a directory of research funding mechanisms, including a brief synopsis of each of them. This directory is an excellent starting point for people with excellent ideas, looking for financial support.

Unfortunately the project website has not been updated recently. Project results such as a “Benchmarking & Best practices report” and a report” called “Bilateral collaboration with China: trend, systems and challenges” sound very interesting but cannot be accessed through the project website (I am trying to get in contact with them, so I might be able to give more detail in the future).

Below you can find a selection of research funding schemes for the area “Engineering and technical science” giving an idea of the CO-REACH directory. Since most of the European readers of this Blog are from UK and Germany, the focus is laid on involvement of these two countries. The comprehensive list can be found under http://www.co-reach.org/output/fieldsofsciences.cfm?fieldofscienceid=2.
